The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to inform residents and road users that we are busy constructing new kerbs and sidewalks along certain roads in the Somerset West central business district (CBD). The work will continue until December 2022 and all are advised to find alternative routes where possible. Read more below:

The work will continue until the first week of December 2022, pending any delays and unforeseen challenges. The project includes the installation of new stormwater infrastructure, kerbs and sidewalks.

The following roads will be impacted on weekdays, from 07:30 until 18:00:

  • Main Road between Fagan Street and Andries Pretorius Street
  • The intersection of Hunters Lane and Andries Pretorius Street
  • Andries Pretorius Street from Fagan Street to Lourens Street

Flag personnel will be on site to guide traffic, and pedestrians are kindly requested to abide by the signage and to use the alternative walkways while work is ongoing.

‘I want to thank residents, visitors, and all road users in advance for their patience while this project is ongoing. Roadworks always come with a level of inconvenience, and the best is to avoid these streets as far as possible. We are trying our best to complete this project on time so that we can limit the impact on commuters and pedestrians,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
